Throughout my early working life as a specialist paediatric oncology nurse I kept active and fit with dance and aerobics. However, in the mid 1990s, I sustained an injury in a car crash which damaged my neck and arm. Unable to run or participate in aerobics sessions, I explored other ways to recondition my body after surgery. Pilates allowed me to regain movement and strength without compromising my recovery. I then decided I wanted to teach Pilates to others.
In 2007, I qualified as a Body Control Pilates instructor and am a registered fitness professional. I have since undertaken additional training including:
Specialist post-surgery Pilates;
Antenatal and post-natal care;
Beginner and intermediate mat work;
Small equipment;
Pilates for golfers;
Back4Good;
Assessment and management of hypermobility:
Pilates in breast cancer rehabilitation.
Teaching Pilates allows me to encourage clients of all ages and ability not to be frightened of using their bodies, exploring their range of movement and increasing their strength.
I am passionate about Pilates and its effectiveness for everyone.
