He\u00a0was influenced by many forms of exercise including gymnastics, boxing and Greco-Roman wrestling. When Joseph Pilates immigrated to the US in the 1920s he\u00a0opened a studio in New York, where he taught his method.\u00a0Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Q: Who will benefit from Pilates ?<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A:\u00a0 Everybody! Young or old, including those with:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Postural problems<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Back pain<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Osteoporosis<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Stress-related conditions<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Asthma<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Preoperative strengthening prior to knee or hip replacement<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Postoperative recovery for knee\/hip replacement<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>It can also help athletes wanting to enhance their performance.\u00a0There is no age limit for participating in Pilates.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: How often do I need to do Pilates ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A:\u00a0 It is recommended that you do Pilates exercises at least twice a week.\u00a0 However, even one class a week is better than none at all and I will always encourage you to do some \u201cmaintenance\u201d exercises, especially if you are using Pilates to help with your rehabilitation.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: How do I start ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A:\u00a0 The best way to start is by giving me a call or <a href=\"http:\/\/alisonwarehampilates.co.uk\/index.php\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contacting me<\/a>.\u00a0 I can then answer any questions you have directly.\u00a0 If you want to proceed, I will post or email you an enrolment form <a href=\"http:\/\/alisonwarehampilates.co.uk\/index.php\/alison-wareham-pilates\/contact\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 The enrolment form asks questions about your medical history, current health and fitness levels.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: Do I need individual sessions or group classes ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A: Everyone starting Pilates training should come first for an individual session so that I can make an assessment of your needs. This will help determine whether you would best be suited to private individual lessons or a group class and what level of class would be most appropriate. Sometimes it may be beneficial to start with a few private sessions before you join a class. I assess you as an individual and your safety and well-being are my top priorities.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: Why is Pilates so popular ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A:\u00a0 The simple answer is because it works\u00a0 and is endorsed by physiotherapists, osteopaths and doctors. Many top athletes and celebrities practice Pilates as an element of their fitness regimes.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: What Should I Wear To A Pilates Class ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A:\u00a0 You should wear something comfortable that does not restrict movement without being too baggy. Leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt is\u00a0ideal.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Q: Do I need to do anything special before a class ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4>A: You should avoid eating a heavy meal and alcohol immediately prior to a class. You should not participate if you are feeling unwell.
